August 19th Nintendo World in NYC held an event for New Super Mario Bros 2. There was a coin rush challenge contest, Mario + Luigi was there to take pictures, The 3DS XL was on display to try out, There was some cosplay but other than that there was not much else going on. Overall it was a smaller event compared to others but the staff at Nintendo World does do a great job at putting everything together. I’m 23 years old and I still got a kick out of seeing Mario and Luigi, I’m sure most people did too. I go to events like this for the experience and it was a great experience but it was mostly waiting in line. I got on the line about 8:30am and the line started moving at 10am, by 11 I was in the store but I still had to wait online. I got my game around 11:20 and by 11:30 I was out the door because there was not much else to do besides by the game and take pictures. I even tried live streaming but that did not go so well…
Many of my twitter friends was there but most of them got the game and left, or Was playing their 3DS on a small table. There was 1 line for the game, 1 line for the picture with Mario, Another line for the coin rush challenge and then outside there was about 100 more people lined up outside. Since there was so many people it was pretty much, Grab and go. Its not Nintendo world’s fault, I remind myself that it is a store and not a hangout spot. Since so many people was waiting for the game this could not be a hangout event which is disappointing. I truly enjoy getting together with my fellow gamers and having a good time but I feel like Nintendo world is not the place for that.
Nintendo world It makes for a great meetup spot but I would not plan on spending more than 20min in there. Thankfully Streetpass NYC now does after parties which is a great idea to keep the energy of the launch event going on for a few more hours. On Sunday, I had a busy day ahead of me so I just got my game and headed home but for Pokemon Black/White 2 there should be something good planned.
